The Friends of the Colusa County Free Library work toward financially supporting and generating community interest in the Library's services, programs, and facilities.

As ambassadors to the community, the Friends believe the library is one of our community's greatest assets as it serves more people in all walks of life than any other institution.
"Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire." ~W.B. Yeats

For ages For agePlease join the Friends of the Colusa County Free Library for a short meeting and election of officers followed by a presentation and discussion with former columnist for The Davis Enterprise, Bob Dunning.
Bob Dunning is a longtime Davis journalist, broadcaster, and commentator whose voice has been part of California’s civic life for more than five decades. A Davis resident since childhood, he graduated from Davis High School before earning degrees from UC Davis and the UC Davis School of Law. He began his career at The Davis Enterprise in 1970—famously with no formal writing experience—while simultaneously working for The Sacramento Bee and putting himself through law school.
In 1976, Dunning launched a daily general-interest column that would become a local institution and earn him four California Newspaper Publishers Association Columnist of the Year awards. After his departure from The Enterprise in 2024, he founded the Substack The Wary One, now a double bestseller. Beyond print, Dunning has hosted national and regional radio shows, including a daily Sirius Satellite Radio program, a long-running KFBK talk show, and the Bishop’s Radio Hour, which he has helmed for 27 years. He also provides commentary for UC Davis athletics on ESPN+ and radio. Dunning has been inducted into both the Cal Aggie Athletics Hall of Fame and the Davis High School Hall of Fame and lives in Davis with his wife Shelley, their six children, and six grandchildren.

Hoopla logo
Hoopla is an increasingly popular way that Colusa County residents can access eBooks, audiobooks, comics, music, movies, and TV.  With hoopla and a valid library card, patrons can borrow, instantly stream, and download dynamic content via hoopla’s mobile app or website.
But this popular service comes with a cost per title accessed. Friends of the Colusa County Library continues to be its source of revenue. $10,000 ensures we can keep Hoopla funded for about one year.

Those funds have strengthened library resources, sponsored cultural and educational programs, and purchased much-needed equipment. Currently, the Friends’ support includes authors evenings, microfilming of local newspapers, monthly collections additions,  EBSCO research database, and support for Summer Reading Programs, Hoopla Audiobooks, and special events such as Día de los niños.

Her love for literature was matched only by her unwavering support for anyone seeking comfort and joy in the pages of a book. As a dedicated librarian, a true Friend of the Library, and a passionate community supporter, she gave her heart to the people and stories she cherished most.
